about 8" long
made using 70 tatting cotton

INSTRUCTIONS

Row 1 mesh stick: #3 kn 12 knots in row

 

In foundation loop net 12 loops.

Rows 2-4 mesh stick: #3 kn 12 knots in row

 

Net 1 knot in each loop.

Row 5 mesh stick: 3/8" 12 knots in row

 

Net 1 knot in each loop.

Row 6 mesh stick: #3 kn 12 knots in row

 

Pull next loop up through the loop to the right of it, net knot in the 1st loop (loop pulled up), pull up the part of the 2nd loop that is now between the 1st loop and net through that part of the second loop; repeat across row.

Row 7 mesh stick: 3/8" 12 knots in row

 

Net 1 knot in each loop.

Row 8 mesh stick: #3 kn 12 knots in row

 

Net 1 knot, *pull next loop up through the loop to the right of it, net knot in the 1st loop (loop pulled up), pull up the part of the 2nd loop that is now between the 1st loop and net through that part of the second loop; repeat across row, ending with net 1 knot in last loop.

Rows 9-32 12 knots in row

 

Repeat rows 5-8.

Rows 33-35 mesh stick: #3 kn 12 knots in row

 

Net 1 knot in each loop.

Row 36 mesh stick: #3 kn 10 knots in row

 

Net 2 loops together, net 1 knot in each loop until 2 loops are left, net last two loops together.

Rows 37-39 mesh stick: #3 kn

 

Repeat row 36. When there are 4 loops in row, cut thread from needle leaving a length about 5 inches long on the bookmark.

MAKING TASSEL

Cut 40 pieces of thread about 10 inches long. Put 10 pieces into each loop on the last row. When all loops are filled, adjust so that the ends are even and wrap a 12" length of thread around the strands about 7 times, about ½" from the end of the bookmark. Tie the ends of this thread together. Trim tassel ends evenly.
