about 8" long
made using 70 tatting cotton

INSTRUCTIONS

Row 1 mesh stick: #2 kn 12 knots in row

 

In foundation loop net 12 loops.

Row 2-5 mesh stick: #3 kn 12 knots in row

 

Net 1 knot in each loop.

Row 6 mesh stick: #3 kn 23 knots in row

 

Wrap thread twice around mesh stick before making knot, net 1 knot in first loop (this creates a long loop). *Net 1 knot in next loop (this creates a short loop), wrap thread twice around mesh stick before making knot and net 1 more knot in same loop (this creates a long loop)*; repeat from * to * across row.

Row 7 mesh stick: #3 kn 12 knots in row

 

Net 1 knot in each long loop.

RowS 8-9 mesh stick: #3 kn 12 knots in row

 

Net 1 knot in each loop.

Rows 10-37 mesh stick: #3 kn

 

Repeat rows 6-9.

Rows 38-40 mesh stick:3/16" 3 loops less each row until 3 loops remain

 

Without mesh stick, net 2 loops together. Now with mesh stick, net 1 knot in each loop to, but not including last 2 loops. Net last 2 loops together.

When there are 3 loops in row, cut thread from needle leaving a length about 5 inches long on the bookmark.


MAKING TASSEL

Cut 42 pieces of thread about 10 inches long. Put 14 pieces into each loop on the last row. When all loops are filled, adjust so that the ends are even and wrap a 12" length of thread around the strands about 7 times, about ½" from the end of the bookmark. Tie the ends of this thread together. Trim tassel ends evenly.
