Circular Netting

The instructions in this section assume that you already know how to tie the basic netting knot. If this is not true, please go to either Basic Knot using Thread or Basic Knot using String/Twine and learn how to tie the Basic Knot (unless you are just browsing).

There are two different ways to create the center of circular netting. They are listed below as Grommet and Foundation Loop. Either one of these methods can be used to create Round 1 of circular netting. The Grommet is preceeded by Anchor for Grommet

making anchor for grommet
The instructions in this section give directions for creating the anchor used in starting circular netting with a grommet.

making grommet
The instructions in this section give directions for starting circular netting that does not have a right or wrong side -- there are no knots or threads left on one side. This method is useful in making doilies and circular string bags.

Round 1 of circular netting
The instructions in this section give directions for starting circular netting. This method leaves a knot and loose ends on one side of the circular net center. This method can be used in making doilies.

Round 2 of circular netting
These instructions continue directly after the instructions given in "Grommet" or in "Foundation Loop". They introduce the differences that the other rounds of circular netting have that the first round does not have.

Finishing a Doily
This section contains instructions on what to do once you have finished netting a doily to get it ready to starch.

Starching a Doily
The instructions in this section are by no means all inclusive. Basically it contains the way my grandmother taught me to starch a doily. If you have other methods that work for you and you think would be helpful to others e-mail them to me.

Netting on Cloth
This section contains instructions on attaching netting directly onto a circular cloth. This method is useful for doilies with cloth centers.

Netting on Cloth
This section contains instructions on attaching netting directly onto a square or rectangular cloth. This method is useful for edgings on handkerchiefs or towels.
