When two pieces of netting are joined, instead of a single thread forming a loop around a mesh stick tied by a single knot to the previously made loop at the top of the mesh stick, there are two lengths of thread which form the joining loop -- one over the mesh stick and one under the mesh stick. Each length is tied by a knot to a previously made loop.
Place index finger under work already done on this row, other fingers are on top of netting previously done.
| STEP | INSTRUCTIONS |
| 1 | Pull thread down toward you, across the middle and ring fingers, |
| 2 | Around those fingers, |
| 3 | Behind the mesh stick, |
| 4 | Across to the left, where it is caught by the left thumb. |
| 5 | Throw the thread away from you. |
| 6 | Bring the needle through loop on fingers from left to right, |
| 7 | Under mesh stick, |
| 8 | Through proper loops (to the right of knots previously worked on in this row). |
| 9 | Over thread which was thrown back across work in step 5. |
| 10 | Catch loop with little finger. |
Continue as for a regular netting knot. When the knot is tied the length of thread will be under the mesh stick.
Turn the entire piece of netting around so the knot just tied rests on the bottom of the mesh stick and the next knot tied can be placed along the top of the mesh stick. Or you can leave the netting where it is and walk around it so you are on the opposite side from where you were when the last knot was tied so that what was the top of the mesh stick when the knot just finished was tied is now the bottom of the mesh stick.
You are now ready to tie the length of thread over the mesh stick.

| 11 | Pull thread down toward you, across the middle and ring fingers, |
| 12 | Around those fingers, |
| 13 | Across to the left, on top of work previously done and |
| 14 | Over the mesh stick where it is caught by the left thumb. |
| 15 | Throw the thread away from you. |
| 16 | Bring the needle through loop on fingers from left to right, |
| 17 | Over mesh stick, |
| 18 | Through proper loops (to the left of knots previously worked on in this row). |
| 19 | Over thread which was thrown back across work in step 15. |
| 20 | Catch loop with little finger. |
Continue as for a regular netting knot. When the knot is tied the length of thread will be over the mesh stick.
NOTE:
To make the lengths of thread over and under the mesh stick a consistent size be sure that the knot previously made lies against the bottom of the mesh stick and the knot being tied lies against the top of the mesh stick before that knot is tied firmly.
You are now ready to tie the length of thread under the mesh stick.
REPEAT THESE TWO SETS OF INSTRUCTIONS ACROSS THE ROW.
