Crossed Center

This center was developed when I wondered if the crossed stitch could be used as a center.

Thread Used in Sample
size 20 crochet thread.

Sample Diameter
about 2.25 inches

Instructions for the Sample Pictured Above
Wind two netting needles, one with single thread and one with double thread (2 threads).

Round 1	mesh stick: 5/8″ Using needle filled with double thread net 30 double thread loops in foundation loop, last one tied by hand. NOTE: Connecting thread is also double.	30 knots in round

Round 2	mesh stick: 5/8″ Net 2 loops together (30 double loops). To tie CK at the end of this round: Cut double thread needle off, leaving a 2″ to 3″ long tail. Lay the 2 strings from the connecting thread and the 2 strings from the double thread needle in front of you with the strings from the double thread needle on the left. Number the threads from left to right 1, 2, 3, and 4. Tie 2 CK’s, each one making a single loop, by tying string 2 to string 4 and string 1 to string 3. Then tie single thread needle to string 4. String 1 becomes the connecting thread. Begin round 3 and net 1 knot in each loop for several loops, then tie strings 2 and 3 together by hand so the loop is the same length as those loops just formed in round 2. Cut strings 2 and 3 off with very short tails.	30 knots in round

Double Thread Center

I wanted to see if I could turn the Double Thread Stitch into a center. The hardest part was figuring out how to tie the CK so it looked the same as the other knots.

Instructions for the Sample Pictured Above

Wind two netting needles, one with single thread and one with double thread (2 threads).

Round 1	mesh stick: 5/8″ Using needle filled with double thread net 24 double thread loops in foundation loop, last one tied by hand. NOTE: Connecting thread is also double. To tie CK at the end of this round: Cut double thread needle off, leaving a 2″ to 3″ long tail. Lay the 2 strings from the connecting thread and the 2 strings from the double thread needle in front of you with the strings from the double thread needle on the left. Number the threads from left to right 1, 2, 3, and 4. Tie 2 CK’s, each one making a single loop, by tying string 2 to string 4 and string 1 to string 3. Then tie single thread needle to string 4. String 1 becomes the connecting thread. Begin round 3 and net 1 knot in each loop for several loops, then tie strings 2 and 3 together by hand so the loop is the same length as those loops just formed in round 2. Cut strings 2 and 3 off with very short tails.	24 knots in round

Net 1 more knot in loop formed by CK, * net 1 knot in each single loop; repeat from to *. To tie CK at end of this round Cut double thread needle off. Tie connecting thread to one of the double thread strands forming CK. Tie other double thread strand to CK of previous round, cut tail short. Tie single thread needle onto one of the strands used to make CK.		Net 1 knot in each single loop. At end of row cut double thread and tie single thread needle to both strands of double thread.
